In Mexico, a predominantly Roman Catholic country, Easter is the most important and widely celebrated religious holiday of the year. Every community has their own unique traditions for celebrating Semana Santa (Holy Week).
GOOD FRIDAY -- THE PASSION OF JESUS
In many towns and villages, the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ is remembered through a Passion Play, or a recreation of the Via Crucis (the Way of the Cross) on Viernes Santo (Holy Friday). This event involves a cast of hundreds of amateur performers playing key roles in the Biblical story that reaches its climax with a simulated crucifixion.
EASTER SUNDAY -- DOMINGO DE GLORIA
All Roman Catholics in Mexico attend mass and take Holy Communion to mark the holiday. It is a unique time for spiritual renewal, born of the hope promised by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
To celebrate the season, our own Chef Daniela Last Name has created a special menu for the pleasure of the church goers. Bring your family and friends to Embassy Suites and delight yourself with our delicious cuisine. |
